| Actually, the BMW weighs about 5,000 lbs. I would much rather be in it than a Ford in a crash, no offense. |

| I wasn't trying to say that you didn't understand the test, but most people don't. FYI my 08 F-350 PU weighs 7,500 w/ a full tank of fuel & avg. driver. I doubt the BMW's are even close. A 4x4 F-150 is around 5,600 lbs, depending on options,they aren't less than 5k No doubt that a BMW is a great car. I 've seen some MB tests that the doors opened, I was really surprised. I think that I replied to the wrong comment, I wanted to place it near you latest one,so that megaangelic would see it. Sorry. |

| I understand the test well. The 5 is actually just as heavy, if not heavier than a pickup. It also has better safety features. |

| The IIHS will place a footnote on cars that score above the test standard. The IIHS has stated publicy that cars that cost above $40,000 US should exceed standards. Keep in mind that this test sims. a head on crash of 2 like cars going 40 mph. This is considered a safe car, but if something heavier hits it like a PU truck, it will do much worse. My point is that people should understand these tests more, & not just decide on the rating alone. Either NHTSA, IIHS, or Euor NCAP. |

| also the new 2007 5series was rated the lowest luxury model by iihs with the volvo s80 being the safest of the ones tested |

| i wouldnt say that based on one car, but when looking at second hand cars german cars are as bad as american ones, on the whole, whereas on the whole swedish cars are amoung the safer, renaults are excellent now days, but go back to 1995 and its a different story. citroen etc still have a way to go yet. new german cars are good in ncap testing but are poor in rear end and rollovers and in the case of bmw side impacts for those slightly taller or shorter passengers than the test dummies) |
